Social Media Stories- Carol, Liz and Wendy Break Through the Glass Ceiling of Age Preconceptions
This was a story I shared after teaching three older women how to paddle. Sharing a very personal, relatable experience makes for successful audience engagement. Publishing it at the end of the week lends into a welcome heartwarming feeling when scrolling after a week of work. I used this to promote Lessons and Vouchers, doubling marketing value.
It's a beautiful evening and just to put the cherry on the cake of a perfect week, here's a feel good Friday story for you all!
Today I had the absolute pleasure of taking these three fabulous women for a Beginner SUP lesson! Carol, Liz and Wendy prove that you're only as old as your attitude, and the fun we had together was evidence of that!
We started the lesson on the sand with an introduction to the board and paddle, as well as learning the three main paddle strokes. Beach teaching is an essential part of the Beginner Lesson, and it gave the girls a chance to practice the strokes in the sand before the excitement of being in the water makes concentrating that little bit harder!
As we entered the water we dealt with the little ripply waves characteristic of Gylly on a low Spring Tide... On jumped Wendy, followed by Carol... and then 💦SPLASH!💦 a rogue wave knocked Liz off her feet... but she wasn't to be defeated and was on the board and paddling off towards the horizon in no time!
Our next challenge was the sneaky Westerly wind which was dead set on blowing us over to Castle Beach. 💨WHOOSH!💨 It catches Carol, and she's zooming off! Resilient, independent and determined, Carol used her push strokes to turn herself back on course to reunite with us.
Days like this it can feel like a constant battle against the wind, and when it's hard to stand up because you've spent a little while paddling on your knees, and the chop is making your board wobble round as though it's resting on marbles, it's hard not to be defeated. I remained faithful, and the next thing I know 💥BAM💥, having watched my explanation once, and without any help at all, Wendy was up on her feet, managing her board and practicing her paddle strokes even in the strongest of the gusts! Carol and Liz weren't far behind, and were on their feet too!
We returned to the beach tired and windswept (hopefully in the glamorous way), but with a shared sense of pride of what we'd all managed to achieve in just an hour!
We spoke about the preconceptions I may have had of them before the session, and how easy it is to judge someone based on their age, health conditions and appearance. But WeSUP is and will always be an all inclusive business, wherever you visit us, whatever you want to take from your experience. If you've got the will and the right attitude, we will do whatever it takes to exceed your expectations. And we'll have the biggest grins on our faces the whole time.
💙Have a wonderful weekend!💙
