Fundraising: Crowdsourcing Funds to Build a Dedicated Changing Area for the Sea Swimming Community

In an effort to further connect with the beach community, WeSUP Paddleboard Centre created a Go Fund Me page to raise funds to create a dedicated changing area for sea swimmers at our beach. I wrote in a way to engage with the very local community, using informal, friendly language. I used humour to connect readers with stories they could all relate to. I clearly stated what funds would be used for, and further progress that could be followed. We successfully raised £200 more than our initial target, and two years later the space continues to be a safe, social hub for the sea swimming community. See the GoFundMe page here

Calling All Gylly Sea Swimmers! You are about to have a new, dedicated area at Gylly Beach! Like and share this post if you love Gylly Beach.

Simon & Viv Daw, owners of our favourite award winning Gylly Beach Cafe have just granted permission for the coolest and most fun community project we've ever been a part of! We have been given the green light to develop the courtyard next to WeSUP in order to create a Gylly Sea Swimmers kit storage area.

The idea is that the courtyard will be the place to meet your wild swimming buddies, have a chat, get changed and leave your kit safe from dogs peeing on your towels, seagulls stealing your cheese and pickle sandwiches and the rain making your warm socks wet and cold! We hope it will become a beautiful social hub where you will make new friends, talk about swim safety and further enjoy the incredible environment that we are so lucky to live in.

Over the years, you crazy bunch have been responsible for inspiring thousands of us to enjoy the ocean, whatever the weather and you have become a famous talking point for the visitors to Gylly Beach. Whether for health & well-being, fitness, medical reasons or just socialising, your simple engagement with the ocean is fun, environmentally sustainable and the most perfect example of the community culture and natural environment engagement that WeSUP and Gylly Beach Cafe want to support for all time.

So, we are proposing to kick start the Gylly Wild Swimming Club (GWSC). We are reaching out to you to ask you to support our funding campaign in order to develop secure waterproof kit storage, social seating, a foot bath and an overhead canopy for shelter from the weather. All donations will be rewarded with your membership. You will also be added to our mailing list and invited to participate in the clubs development. Things like logo design, merchandise, courtyard improvements and safety awareness which will all follow the build project.

We are really grateful for your support over the years and we see this as a great opportunity to further bond all of us who love and enjoy Gylly Beach. Thank you so much in advance for any support you can offer this project.

If you are passionate about community on Gylly Beach and want to help along a really worthwhile community venture, please head to our GoFundMe fundraising page and donate what ever you can to help us reach our target. We need a minimum of £600 and hope to kick start the project right away.

Please also like and share this post to make sure we raise as much awareness of this campaign as possible.

Cheers ma beauts!
